Being a female entrepreneur and business owner in Toronto, I am often asked how I started my business – Vent Blow Dry Bar. As I try to give a quick response, I am often left thinking, there is so much more to it that I didn’t tell her and she needs to know!
So I’ve decided to start 2019 by telling my story, the story of how Vent Blow Dry Bar came to be part of Liberty Village and of how I changed my life.
Over the past couple of years I’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of women who dream of changing their lives and having their own business. Women, who like myself, have become tired of working for other people and are dreaming of something better. I’ve also observed the rise in entrepreneurship in Toronto and how many of them are women. I am only part of the way into my journey but there is so much I have learned and experienced that I want to share. My hope is by sharing my journey it may help other women chase their dreams. It is never too late and never too soon.
Through this blog, I will tell my entire story in the hopes it will resonate and inspire other women to take the first step. But there are a few things I want to start off by sharing: I am not special. I don’t have a business degree from a recognized university, a rich uncle who gifted me a pile of money, a parent who left a hefty inheritance or a rich husband who financed my vision for that matter.
This opportunity didn’t fall into my lap and I certainly didn’t just pay someone to do it for me. What I am is a mom to three amazing children, a wife to a very supportive husband. And I am a woman who in her early forties, decided that I was going to take control of my life. I was determined to live my best life by chasing my dreams of business ownership and realizing just what was possible – no matter the risks. I will share the ups and downs and everything in-between. My husband’s reaction when I first told him I wanted to leave my career and open a blow dry bar! And the impact all of it has had on myself and my family – good and bad.
I hope you will join me on this journey.
